Child of Destiny (運命の子, Unmei no Ko) is the 1st Night of Adventure of Sinbad anime series.

Summary[]

Badr and Esra, villagers of Tison deliver Sinbad into the world on one fateful night. Throughout his early life, Sinbad is forced to learn the pain and effects of war in the environment around him. Badr refuses to embrace the Pathevia Empire's beliefs in war and ultimately pays the ultimate price for it. This leads Sinbad down the path to his destiny.

Synopsis[]

Child of Destiny

The child of destiny is born into the world.

On the night of a ferocious storm, Badr helps his wife Esra through a difficult birth. Gyokuen, Matal Mogamett, Scheherazade, and Yunan all take notice of the flow of Rukh in their respective part of the world and surmise that a great power has just been born into the world. Esra successfully gives birth to a healthy baby boy she and Badr name Sinbad, the man who will eventually rule the seven seas.

Years later in the village of Tison within the Parthevia Empire, soldiers celebrate their victory at the local pub. While Badr tries to enjoy a drink as well, soldiers arrive to pay him for his great service in the war. However, Badr refuses, claiming he has no use for a fortune. Badr doesn't agree with the nation's aggressive expansion efforts and just wants to focus on fishing.

Badr goes out on his boat and notices baby Sinbad stowing away to be with him. This surprises Sinbad's father, who tries to contain the energetic child until they're caught in a bad storm. Rather than be afraid, Sinbad helps his father buy guiding him out of the storm. Badr notices Sinbad's gift and tells him that he will grow into a man that will change the world.

Two years later, Parthevian soldiers chase a soldier from Reim off a cliff. The next morning in a different area, Badr continues to work as an honest fisherman. Now five years old, Sinbad brings his father lunch and asks to join him on the boat. Badr refuses and tells Sinbad he will work hard when he's older will be allowed on the boat.

Angry citizens confront Badr, calling him a traitor and demanding he stop fishing in this area. In the past two years, Parthevia has gone to war with Reim. Its citizens are slowly descending into poverty and all of them are desperate to win the war to reobtain their wealth. People like this attack Badr, who simply laughs them off and allows himself to be beaten in front of Sinbad. When Badr awakens, he tries to ignore it but Sinbad is infuriated that his father didn't defend himself and runs off.

That night at dinner, Sinbad quickly finishes his food and runs off to draw water from the well. Esra tells Badr that she's concerned about their future even if Badr doesn't seem worried about the nation. Sinbad interrupts when he returns, bringing an injured man with him. The same man who was being chased by Pathevian soldiers earlier.

Sinbad's family nurses this man back to health and he eventually awakens. He thanks Sinbad for saving him and introduced himself as Darius, a traveling merchant claiming to be shipwrecked. Badr offers his help but Esra doesn't believe they can. Sinbad asks Darius about his golden hair and the traveler tells Sinbad all about the different places all over the world. After that day, Marco tells Sinbad stories about the world every night. To a child who's never left the village, Darius's stories are like fairy tails.

One morning, Darius attempts to leave while Esra attempts to serve him some food. They're interrupted when soldiers suddenly arrive and tells Ersa they've been looking for a spy in the area. They force their way into the house and are brutally murdered by Darius. He takes Sinbad hostage in order to keep all the citizens away from him, horrifying Ezra. Sinbad doesn't understand what's happening but Darius reveals he's a spy from Reim. Darius demands a boat and money in return for Sinbad. Esra begs the crowd around her but they ignore the pleas.

Just before Darius escapes with the child, Badr arrives to stop him. He gets on his knees and begs Darius to let Sinbad go. He suggests Darius change sides and provide info to Parthevia, but this only serves to anger Darius, a proud citizen of Reim. In an instant, while Marco is distracted, Badr stabs him in the heart with a knife. He takes back Sinbad and declares that he doesn't care what people say about him, but he'll never forgive anyone who harms his family. As Darius dies, Sinbad tells him he loved his stories.

Afterward, Badr is charged with the crime of harboring a spy and is sent off to fight in the war. While Sinbad and Esra cry and plead for the guards to stop, villagers demand their family leave Tison immediately. Sinbad tells them to stop saying bad things and one of the villagers threats to touch him. Badr tells them to stop and reveals all his scars from war. He talks about all the suffering on the battlefield and why he refused to go back. Before being hauled off, Badr attempts to open the eyes of the villagers so they can see the evil of war.

As Badr leaves Sinbad behind, he tells his young son he'll have to fight as a man throughout his life and asks Sinbad to take after Esra. This experience helped Sinbad realize his father's strength. A few months later, Badr is killed on the battlefield and his sword is sent to Sinbad. Nine years after that, Sinbad hs grown into a fourteen-year-old young man.

Manga & Anime Differences[]

  • Omitted scenes:
    • Davashadil IV's speech. The entire scene is instead done by the narrator.
    • Newborn Sinbad giving directions to his parents to hide from the volcano.
    • Esra entrusting Sinbad with Badr's lunch.
    • Badr telling Esra that their ship is broken.
  • In the manga, Sinbad quietly comes home before telling his parents that he's found someone. In the anime, he simply screams "daddy!".
  • Esra and Badr's talk about letting Darius live with them is greatly shortened.
